If you are thinking of bringing your furry little friend to France with you but are not sure what you need to do, here is some information to get your dog ready for travel. In order for your dog to travel it needs a doggy passport. You can request one of these from your local vet. In order to get a dog passport your dog needs to be microchipped and have a rabies injection or rabies booster at least 21 days before travel. If you would like to see exactly what is required for your dog please visit the official Government checklist or just ask at your local vet for taking your dog abroad. Please shop around because our local vet wanted over £200 for the passport and injection. Before we came to France we got ours from Pets at Home who have many branches throughout the UK.
Once you are in France and you a preparing to return to the UK you are required for your dog to receive a tapeworm treatment from a qualified vet 1-5 days before the return journey back to the UK. More information can be found here.
We have a lovely little French Bulldog of our own and we have a very good english speaking vet in Roumazieres, about 10-15 minutes from the campsite. It is very easy to get an appointment for the next day.
We would be more than happy to arrange an appointent for you and your dog at our vets while you are here. Or if you would like to arrange this yourself here is the contact information for the vet.
Here at Camp Laurent - our moto is dog friendly for friendly dogs! While some of us can't imagine travelling without our dog, others can't imagine travelling with them. If you keep your dog under control and clean up after them, we can create a happy environment for all our guests. We tell our guests visiting Camp Laurent with their beloved pet that your dog may be off the lead if they are under control. We also ask that no ball games are to be played in the Camping field itself, We have other large areas of land including 400m of river frontage where you and your dog can run around and play and swim. After all this is a campsite not a dog park! Our little French Bulldog Stella looks forward to making some new friends here at Camp Laurent.
